The increased risk of suicide among LGBTQAI2S+ youth is not an inherent result of their sexual orientation or gender identity, but rather a consequence of the mistreatment and stigmatization they face in society. The Rainbow Rest Stop will be a safe and supportive space for queer youth to learn about self-care and self-love in order to maintain and improve their mental health and have a happy life they deserve.
This colorful and inviting space, which will be housed on the third floor of the Hot Shops, will offer a variety of activities and resources to help explore feelings, build resilience, and gain the skills to manage emotions in healthy ways.
We will be partnering with the Omaha Children's museum to create an interactive space which will include a self-care shopping area, affirmation building blocks and much more. There will be fun activities such as art projects, worksheets, yoga, and mindfulness, as well as access helpful resources such as books, videos, and podcasts.
The Rainbow Rest Stop is a safe and supportive space for LGBTQIA2S+ youth to take a break, recharge, and find the courage and strength to take care of their mental health.
